The Elusive Stargirl.....

Our first read-aloud this year is Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli. Stargirl is a puzzle so far. One interesting thing about this character is that she changes her name. Stargirl was once "Mudpie" and before that she was "Pocket Mouse." What if everyone changed their names to suit their feelings or interests. What name would YOU choose? Why?!

If I were to change my name I would change it to Chantal. As everyone knows, singing is one of my favorite things to do. This was especially true when I was in high school and college. Chant means "sing" in french so I thought that this would be an appropriate name for me. Another reason I chose this name is because I was thinking about what I was like in high school. I feel like I can make a connection to the characters in Stargirl because they discuss what makes someone popular and what makes someone unpopular. When I was in high school I used to sing whether it made me popular or not. Just like how Stargirl does things that may or may not be popular.

If could change my name it would be "Nebula " because when we went to the Roger Williams Zoo, we saw a beautiful butterfly nebula. I would love to have my name sound like a eye-catching masterpiece.

In addition, a nebula is a is cloud of gas that forms a star.
