This secret proves to be exciting but dangerous. Would you want to drink from the magic spring? Why or why not??teklove33http://www.blogger.com/profile/03509727778966209995noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3451575119399634391.post-82095526193984634552011-01-31T20:38:00.002-05:002011-01-31T20:47:05.429-05:00The Marvelous Maniac MageeWe're currently enthralled with Jerry Spinelli's Maniac Magee. This is story about a homeless boy, but also so much more. This is our second book by Mr. Spinelli. Which do you prefer... Stargirl or Maniac Magee?? Why!?teklove33http://www.blogger.com/profile/03509727778966209995noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3451575119399634391.post-7903711543861973842010-11-17T09:42:00.003-05:002010-11-17T09:45:36.144-05:00The Wretched StoneWe recently read The Wretched Stone by Chris Van Allsburg, an interesting story about a strange and dangerous stone. What do you think about this stone? What is the author's purpose? Is he trying to make a statement about something? Read between the lines and tell us what you think.teklove33http://www.blogger.com/profile/03509727778966209995noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3451575119399634391.post-45317094043064996032010-10-12T06:33:00.002-05:002010-10-12T06:44:09.762-05:00The NonconformistStargirl is not a follower. In fact, she's an example of a nonconformist, someone who doesn't follow the same rules or customs as most people. In Stargirl's case, she doesn't follow the "rules" and customs of the popular kids at school. This has made most of the students turn against her. Stargirl does not have many friends. Would you befriend Stargirl if you went to school with her? Why or why not?teklove33http://www.blogger.com/profile/03509727778966209995noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3451575119399634391.post-81586710461708598262010-09-14T19:22:00.003-05:002010-09-15T14:29:48.338-05:00The Elusive Stargirl.....Our first read-aloud this year is Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli. Stargirl is a puzzle so far. One interesting thing about this character is that she changes her name. Stargirl was once "Mudpie" and before that she was "Pocket Mouse." What if everyone changed their names to suit their feelings or interests. What name would YOU choose? Why?!teklove33http://www.blogger.com/profile/03509727778966209995noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3451575119399634391.post-72845707967214546062010-06-25T07:02:00.005-05:002010-06-25T07:18:55.498-05:00SUMMER READING BLAST!<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 110px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLj7YtFBB_U39x1ufHP1IO8-L2WpVkRqaONWwbMHdTMskUq9tUmQgn0YVmudO78nOTs0RPJiO8WorstCrn6n4YJCg_FKrpv-feDElGfPmP0-K8vMNxIxd2FqzoVsNveNx6-Dao3ODBhN8/s200/Sunflower-clipart-10.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5486682266962419922" />
Let's chat about summer reading. Research shows that kids who don't read during the sumer lose ground. Make sure that doesn't happen to you by reading...even fifteen minutes a day will help prevent the "summer slide." So get to it! What are your reading right now? Have you found a great book that other kids might like? Let's chat! Of course not, but you will once you read The BFG by Roald Dahl. Frobscottle is a "scrumdiddlyumptious" drink found only in giant-land. The BFG is filled with Mr. Dahl's wacky, invented words. Luckily there are some spelling rules that can help readers decode these words. Check out these new "words" created by Room 5's "dogglewizzes!"teklove33http://www.blogger.com/profile/03509727778966209995noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3451575119399634391.post-72904662466095405942009-09-24T15:36:00.002-05:002009-09-24T15:42:50.635-05:00Making Connections- Walk Two MoonsOur class is enjoying our first read aloud, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. We are getting to know the characters and biting our fingernails wondering who the mysterious "lunatic" might be. We're also making connections between this wonderful book and our own lives.
